Why Would You Do This To Your Other Children?

OK, I am a bit fired up over something. Someone just posted on a yahoo group I'm on that they told their small group (Bible study group) from church that they were going to adopt a child with special needs. The leader of the group ask them how they could do that to their other children.

My question is how could they not do it for their children if that's what God asked of them. Is it more important to give your kids the "easy life" than it is to have them live a life of following God? Is it better to let a child suffer in an orphanage or an institution than to have your other children live a life that is different than the "normal" family.

Is it better for our children for us to live the lifestyle of having things the "easy" way. Is it better for us to live the "easy" life than to take in one of God's precious miracles made in his image? The Bible says we are made in God's image. I don't know anywhere in the Bible that it says only biological, healthy children are made in his image. This is what I know the Bible to say: Matthew 18:5
"And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me."

That's right, it says if you welcome a child like this in my name you welcome me. I take that to mean that if we let that child stay an orphan because it would make our life easier than we are allowing Christ to live as an orphan.

Where in the Bible does it say we need to make life as easy as possible for our children?

HOO RAH! Sarah, you hit the nail on the head! It DOES NOT SAY anywhere in the Bible that only healthy biological kids are made in His image. AND PRAISE GOD FOR THAT!

Without the special kiddos, I would not have been blessed beyond measure by my daughters. They are the lights of my life. I would be lost without them.

You rock, Sarah!

Nope---we are NOT called to take the easy road. We are called to press in and run this race with perseverance. Sometimes that does involve taking the hard road, the one less traveled. You are soooo right, Sarah---if God says GO, He will equip us and take care of every little detail, including our other kids. Obedience is the key.

People will always have an opinion, and love to voice it---but only ONE opinion really matters---The one and only True GOD!

Maybe she never read the scripture that says, "Do to others as you would want them to do to you", huh? WOW!

I confess that some people have said some things to me over the years with my kiddos that I would never, ever, ever repeat...mean, cruel, heartless things. I pray their heart has changed since they said them, but they are accountable to the one who created each child...and that's where it all ends - at the feet of Jesus...

Preach it sister! Amen!
It's sad that that woman's leader is just reflecting what our culture tells us. . ."It's all about me (and my kids). . .afterall, doesn't God want me to be happy?"
